This is the first sutra of Book One. The glass of spilled milk in the painting takes some artistic license with the role of the first sūtra, which traditionally simply states the intended subject matter. The point is that now – right now – when things are going wrong, when we’re anxious, irritated, annoyed, frustrated, depressed, disappointed, heartbroken, worried – now is when the practice of Yoga begins.
