smrti-pariśuddhau sva-rūpa-śūnyevārtha-mātra-nirbhāsā nirvitarkā
When the memory (and attention) is purified, the mind forgets itself, and only meaning shines forth. This is nirvitarkā samādhi, or samādhi without deliberation.
At nirvitarkā samādhi, (the second division of the first stage of samādhi) the encrusted layers of thought-over-time – memory – dissolve, and the quality of our attention clears. The mind empties, loses awareness of itself, and becomes one with the object of contemplation.
