Of these two, effort toward stability of the mind is practice.

What exactly is practice? Practice is active effort toward stabilizing the mind. Practice, abhyāsa, and non-attachment, vairāgyā are the two tools we use in Yoga. Through practice, we develop calmness and inner stability as the thoughts  continue to come and go. The image is of the blue pearl of meditation.
