Those who discarnate upon reaching only the first level of samādhi must take birth again. 

Until we reach the ultimate level of samādhi, absorption in the Self, we will continue to experience rebirth. However, no work is lost. If we develop the capacity to experience the first level of samādhi in one lifetime, we are born into the next lifetime with that awareness. The results of our efforts, embedded in our DNA, give us the capacity to attain full samādhi easily (or relatively so) from birth.
