virāma-pratyayābhyāsa-pūrvah samskāra-śesho’nyah

Another state of samādhi occurs after persistent practice with the intention to stop thoughts. In this state, only the samskāras (latent impressions) remain.

With persistent practice, the highest state of samādhi, asamprajñāta, (super-conscious) naturally follows the four progressive levels of samādhi described in the previous sūtra, 1.17. In the same way, the gold spirals in the painting for that sūtra lead into this painting and then dissolve into cosmic consciousness.
