Misperception is false knowledge, not  based on the true form.

The second category of the five types of mental activities is Viparyaya – error, or false knowledge – misperception. It occurs when our perception of something is not based on its true form. The traditional metaphor given is mistaking a rope for a snake, or a snake for a rope.
