Samprajñāta (conscious)samādhi results from mental activity, first on a gross level, then on a subtle, reflective level, followed by a feeling of bliss, and finally a state of pure Being (I-AM-ness).

The experience of samādhi – transcendent absorption in the Self – happens in stages. It begins with a conscious choice to control mental activity and proceeds to super-conscious awareness beyond the mind. This sūtra outlines those stages.
